# Lord of the Earth Created

## Introduction

- Bill the author, how I know him, how my parents know him, recently passed, Anglican priest!

|

- As with all studies, the Word is our guide, not the study. Take a "trust but verify" approach
|
|
- More relevant than ever, given cultural and Christian confusion about gender
|
|
- My desire from this study

- Understand biblical manhood

- For my own application--be a better man

|
- Teach my boys to be real men

|
- Have confidence in the face of cultural confusion

What is a man?
|
|

Man was made by God, like God, to rule for God
|
|
|
|
**Man's identity**
|
|
The image of God: we are the way we are and have the capabilities we have because of who and how God is.
|
|
|
|
Because he made us and we are like Him, we look to Him to define who we are and what we are to be doing
|
|
|
|
Man's dual identity: physical and spiritual, command the earth, commune with God
|
|
|
|
**Man's purpose**
|
|
Rule the world, subdue it, make it fruitful, multiply it
|
|
What is your domain? What must you subdue? What are you making fruitful, multiplying and filling?
|
|
How are you creating value?
|
|
God's pattern: form, then fill (Gen. 1)
|
|
|
|
Can a man still fulfill his purpose if he never marries?
|
|
What would you say to a man uninterested in finding a wife and/or job?

|
**Man's domain**
|
|
The world!
|
|
God focuses man downward and outward first: what consequences does it have that men more and more frequently live in cities with jobs far from nature?
|
|
|
|
Hide and seek: godly science is an _excellent_ pursuit--to find what God has hidden!
|
|
|
|
First command: not love God or evangelize, but rule the earth--what do you think?
|
|
|
|
Individual domains: what are yours?
|

|
|
HUGE POINT: we are _accountable_ to God due to this _responsibility_ given us
|
|
|
|
**Headship**
|
|
Man has a unique headship role which distinguishes him from woman, though both share the world mandate.
|
|
|
|
|
|
# Glory of God: Fallen
|
|
|
|
One take away: we are created to worship God--this does not just take place in temples and churches. It is with our whole lives that we worship God, seeking to glorify Him in how we behave, the offices we take up and work in (son, father, priest, pastor, judge, etc) and excel in, etc. Our lives either worship God, the rightful recipient of our worship, or they worship a false image, ourselves, Satan, the world, the creation. So, the fallen nature of the glory of God aspect is to live our lives to worship something or someone other than God who created us.

The idea of sex as a picture of worship connects and explains why sexual sin is so often associated with idolatry.
|
|
|
|
- Adam and Eve covered their sex organs after reject God's commandment and sinning
|
|
- Romans 1 describes a descent into sexual perversion after rejecting God
|
|
- Sexual sins are often associated with idol worship: temple prostitutes
|
|
- Sexual "freedom" goes hand-in-hand with the rejection of God
|
|
- Idolatry and adultery are often connected in scripture, adultery used to describe idolatry |
