<paragraph>I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I have a Bachelor of Music from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. On coming to Vienna in 1996 to further my musical studies, I met and married an Austrian, and this has become home.</paragraph>
|
||
<paragraph>Languages have always held a certain fascination for me. Even in elementary school I loved studying English, learning vocabulary and diagramming sentences—it was my favorite subject. This was reinforced at home by parents who were very particular (especially mom!) about our grammar. Having a grasp of the grammatical structure of English helped tremendously in learning other languages. By the time I graduated from high school I had finished courses in Norwegian and French at a local community college, with honors in both. After finishing my degree in Boston, I studied German for a year before coming to Austria, and now it has become my second language. I can even understand Viennese, at least some of the time!</paragraph>

<paragraph>Over the years I have taught violin and English to both children and adults, and the similarities between learning a spoken language and the language of music have become more and more apparent. There is a great source of satisfaction in giving someone a love of either music or language.</paragraph>

<paragraph>My husband, Christopher, and I have our home in Brunn am Gebirge with our two children, David and Rebekah.</paragraph>

<paragraph>Geboren und aufgewachsen in Seatlle, Washington. Ich schloss das “New England Conservatory of Music” in Boston mit einem Bachelor Degree in Musik ab. Als ich 1996 nach Wien kam, um weiter Musik zu studieren, traf ich hier meinen – damals zukünftigen – Mann, und Österreich wurde zu meinem neuen Zuhause.</paragraph>

<paragraph>Sprachen übten auf mich von jeher eine Faszination aus. Schon in der Volksschule war Englisch mein Lieblingsfach. Auch zuhause war besonders unsere Mutter immer darauf bedacht, in der Grammatik alles richtig zu machen.</paragraph>
|

<paragraph>Mein Verständnis für die englische Grammatik hat mir dann auch enorm beim Erlernen anderer Sprachen geholfen. Ich schloß die Higschool mit Auszeichnungen in Norwegisch und Französisch ab. Nach meinem Abschluß in Boston studierte ich ein Jahr lang Deutsch, bevor ich nach Österreich kam. Mittlerweile ist Deutsch meine zweite Muttersprache; manchmal kann ich sogar Wienerisch verstehen!</paragraph>

<paragraph>In den vergangenen Jahren habe ich sowohl Kinder als auch Erwachsene im Violinspielen und in Englisch unterrichtet, wobei mir die Ähnlichkeit zwischen dem Erlernen einer Sprache und der Sprache der Musik immer mehr auffiel. In beiden Fällen geht es darum, die Liebe zur Sache zu entdecken.</paragraph>
