MASTERPIECE: The Art Auction Game
Item listed on: 11/04/2004 | Auction ends on: 11/14/2004
Item Description

You are bidding on a 1970 Masterpiece: The Art Auction Game board game by Parker Brothers. The description along with the game says:

Your favorite Rembrandt is on the block and you are bidding for it against a dazzling array of eccentric art speculators. Baron von Oberlitzer, the German industrialist, signals a bid of $500,000; V. Elton Whitehall instantly ups it to $750,000. Should you go even higher? What if it's a worthless forgery? You must decide quickly, but you'll never know for sure unless you outbid the competition. Keen observation, steady nerves and a little luck make the difference in MASTERPIECE, an exciting, suspenseful trip into the elite world of the international art auction.

If you like, you may adobt the role of one of the six colorful characters who might attend such an auction. Their pictures and profiles are printed on special cards. So now you're ready to play. The winner is the player who, at the end of the game, has acquired the largest fortune in paintings and cash. Good luck!

That about explains the gameplay!

The game, overall, is in good condition. See the pictures to the left for details. The cards are in fair condition, they do show wear (fraying around the edges, some creases--one value card has some kind of stain on it, see picture) from years of playing. The playing board is in very good condition, clean, and with few signs of wear. The playing instructions are in good condition, as well as the clips, dice, play money, and playing pieces. The box is in fair condition, again, see pictures.

All the cards are present, and all the money too (as far as I know, the instructions do not say how much money comes with the game). All the players pieces are there and the dice. There are three white clips missing, that hold the value cards to the painting cards. All the cards and the play money are rubberbanded together (although pictures do not show this).

All the paintings in this MASTERPIECE are from the Art Institute of Chicago.

Additional Info

Interesting side note: the game includes the original warranty and registration card.

This game was always a lot of fun to play when my sisters and I (and our cousins) were staying at our grandparents house for family gatherings. It was always one of my favorites.

My grandparents have moved out now, and we've moved in and now everyone is too old to want to play board games anymore! This game is still a lot of fun, though.
