After pulling off the chrome and unscrewing the chrome cap, the cartridge just pulls out.
The spring and gasket is constructed so that the spring goes into the gasket and the plastic insert goes into the other end of the spring. Of course, the end of the spring with the insert goes into the valve with the gasket sticking out toward the cartridge.
