Last section of the book, Paul defending freedom of the gospel of justification by faith 3. Just described fruits of the Spirit--the power of walking by the Spirit 2. Be Humble 1. In dealing with sin (weakness of others), v1 1. Such a picture of the difference between walking by the Spirit and walking under the Law 2. Caught: catch unawares (not looking for it) 3. Restore: mend a broken bone 4. Watch ourselves: we're weak too 5. More generally: dealing with the weaknesses of others 2. In bearing one another's burdens, v2 1. In contrast to legalist: bury others under the law to look more righteous by comparison 2. Under the Spirit: bear each other up by carrying each others burdens together 3. In our view of ourselves, v3 1. Humble: "not proud or haughty: not arrogant or assertive" 2. Proud: "having or displaying excessive self-esteem" 3. Arrogant: "exaggerating or disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance often by an overbearing manner" 4. Humility: having the _right_ view of yourself, not exagerrated 5. NLT: "If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important." 4. In examining works, v4-5 1. We examine our OWN works 2. Bear his own load? Application: what you're doing here is worthy of reward in the Lord's eyes 2. Do good…to reap eternal life 1. John 17:3 2. 1 John 1:2 3. We can experience some aspect of eternal life now through: 1. Knowing God 2. Growing in following Christ 4. Application 1. Teaching here (devotions, messages, etc) 2. Mostly character development, develop the qualities of Christ 3. Do good…with perseverance 1. Keeping up this mindset is hard! 2. The reaping is in God's time, but the promise is there 3. Maybe not on earth? 4. Do good…with a sense of urgency and priority 1. Won't always have time to do these things 1. Christ is coming back 2. We may not always have freedom to run camps 3. We won't always know these kids # Devotion 3 - Galatians 6:11-16 Be honest 1. Be honest…in your outward appearance, even if it means persecution 1. Jews causing the persecution (who else would stop persecution after they adopted the law?) 2. Believers are doing this false teaching (why else would be escaping persecution for Christ's sake?) 2. When we are not being honest 1. It's hypocrisy 2. Boasting in flesh 3. What we can boast in - Christ 1. No differences based on outward appearance anymore 2. It is the inward, new creation that matters
