# Question 1
Given below are three illustrations. For each give a passage of Scripture in which you would use the illustration and state exactly ho you would use it.
## Illustration A
Deep sea fishermen keep tanks in their boats so that the cod they catch can swim about alive until their return to harbor. It was discovered, however, that though the cod remained alive, they became flabby and limp. They were too content in such safe waters So, the fishermen introduce a catfish into the tanks to chase the code about and frighten them out of their ease. Cod now arrive at the market fresh and brisk.

## Illustration B
Gibbon, the famous historian of the Roman Empire, tells us that, by a sudden change of fortune, one of the old Roman Emperors was suddenly brought one day from prison to receive the imperial crown. No smith could be found within the precincts of the palace, and so far several hours he stat on the throne of the Caesars with fetters still on his hands and feet.

## Illustration C
The word *Gospel* comes from the Greek word *euaggelion*. The verb literally means "to bring a message of good news" and the noun, simply "good news". The word *Gospel* itself is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word *gode-spell*, the word *gode* meaning "good" and *spell* meaning " a story, a tale". The word *euaggelion* was used as commonly in the first century as our words "good news" are used today. In ordinary conversation, in the first century the word did not have any of the religious connotations it would have today. However, it was adopted by the Caesar Cult where it acquired a religious significance. The Caesar Cult was the official religion of the Roman Empire in which the Caesar was worshipped as a god. When the announcement of the Caesar's birthday was made, or the accession of a new Caesar proclaimed it was called by the word *euaggelion*. Thus when the news of salvation is called *euaggelion* the word literally meant, to first century readers, "good news".
