Notes from reading he feedback:
- Most of the "for it" feedback was shallow, short and without any support other than "I like it" or "it's the best"
- Some of the negative feedback was shallow too, many were thoughtful and respectful
- The one long review from June 14, 2023 was one of the most balanced and thoughtful and was in favor of using the book
- The most energetic responses were against replacing the red and black hymn books, even if we did also purchase the Anthem song books
- None of the reviews included biblical evaluations of what worship or music is supposed to be
- Many seemed in favor of using the song book without purchasing for each row
- I think teaching on worship and music is needed at the chapel
- I agree that we cannot chase down the lives of everyone who has written a song to evaluate them for sinlessness. On the other hand, if, without any effort, we already know of the horrible sins of some of the song writers, I think we should carefully consider whether we'll sing those songs or not. "Negligible" royalty fees add up to enriching such authors and throwing our portion to them seems unwise.
- I agree with one reviewer who asked to understand the reasons behind the desire to switch. Personally, I don't know what those reasons are either and I think they should be carefully understood before considering switching.
- Considering only people's feelings for the moment: I think we'd do the _most_ injury if we replaced the current books with the new one completely. Almost everyone appears to be onboard with incorporating songs from Anthem without purchasing them for every row and replacing the current hymnals.

Board of Directors Meeting, March 18th, 2021
The regular annual meeting of the Bible Chapel of Shawnee Board of Directors was called to order by President Steve Robertson. Present were Robert Rockhold, Steve Robertson, Todd Ericson, Ron Spragg, Ben Ramey and Pete Youngberg.
Minutes
Ron Spragg opened in prayer.
The 2020 chapel board meeting minutes were read and approved with only minor typo corrections.
REPORTS
Treasurers Report
Bob Rockhold presented the treasurers report for 2020. This included the following reports.
1. The monthly financial report showing income, disbursements and fund balances from December 2020
2. A comparison of total expenses by category from 2019 and 2020
3. A categorization by "internal" versus "outreach" of all expenses from 2020
There were no disbursements from the CD Redemption Fund after May 2020. In total $276.02 was disbursed from the fund in 2020.
CD Redemption Fund Disbursements by year:
2018 air condition, sound equipment, shutters
2019 chairs and carpet
2020 nothing
Treasurer's report was approved.
Fire Inspector's Report
2020 there was no fire inspection due to COVID-19 issue and sparse usage of the building. Ron Spragg responded to a few questions and the fire department sent us an approved report for 2020.
Insurance Report
Insurance company notified us of increased theft of copper and catalytic converters. This was addressed in the men's meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Chapel Security Team
COVID-19 changed plans since meetings at the chapel were canceled. The first meeting will be planned this year with Chris Jozwick, Ben Ramey, Diane Youngberg and Karen Price.
Backup Treasurer
Bob has not been meeting with Noah Price because of COVID-19 restrictions. Noah is unsure of where he will end up with school and job and should not be relied on to take the position. Christian and Noah would meet together with Bob. Christian has a business degree and may be a better option. Gilma Rodriguez and Meyung Gwun are both accountants, but may not be interested.
The board will continue to review this year-to-year until a long-term solution is found.
Chapel Internet Connection
The WiFi password is still kept private. For remote meetings, the chapel purchased a Zoom license for three individuals that are used across various meetings for the chapel.
Chapel Security System
Charles Stange installed the security system in 2020, including a video camera on the exterior, facing the front door.
Chapel Basement Remodel
Some improvements were done during 2020 by Ron Spragg and Steve Bouchie. A private area (extending the partition) in the nursery, including a door. Added some air ducts.
The previous plan to more extensively remodel the basement was put on hold due to COVID-19 and meeting remotely.
New Hymnals
Several hymnals were repaired for use with Vessels of Honor. Since VoH was remote last year, these repaired hymnals were used at the chapel and no new purchases were made.
NEW BUSINESS
COVID-19 Response
Until now and going forward we have and will follow Johnson County guidelines. Todd Ericson has discussed seating arrangements since more people are coming to the meeting. Spacing out chairs and using every row. Two sides to chapel: one for social distancing, one with no social distancing and people could choose where to sit.
Expenses for masks at the chapel and special bread and wine cups are minimal. In general, expenses were down from the year before due to spare building usage, camps being canceled, etc.
Chapel Van
Considering selling the van and renting a van when we need it which the men's business meeting will decide.
Offering Box
Cash offerings greatly dropped from 2019 to 2020. This is most likely due to remote meetings, and fewer people being at the chapel as well and a decline in attendance from groups at the chapel most likely to give with cash.
Increasingly Hostile Cultural Environment
A couple of years ago we put in protections regarding being asked to perform gay weddings.
Should a church attorney be hired to review our bylaws. Assembly Care Ministries reviewed our bylaws in 2016 with lawyers present. This could be renewed. Pete will follow-up with ACM.
Motion to have Pete run bylaws through ACM was approved.
ELECTION OF BOARD MEMBERS
Robert Rockhold was re-elected to the board for a three-year term, expiring in 2024.
Todd Ericson was re-elected to the board for a three-year term, expiring in 2024.
Pete Youngberg was re-elected to the board for a three-year term, expiring in 2024.
Steve Robertson 3 years 2022
Ben Ramey 3 years 2022
Ron Spragg 3 years 2023
Robert Rockhold 3 years 2024
Todd Ericson 3 years 2024
Pete Youngberg 3 years 2024
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Officers were elected to serve until the next annual board meeting.
Steve Robertson was re-elected as president of the board.
Todd Ericson was re-elected as vice-president of the board.
Bob Rockhold was re-elected as treasurer of the board.
Ben Ramey was re-elected as secretary of the board.
CLOSING

The meeting was adjourned.

- Purpose of questions was to give feedback to brothers in the Congo and a conference there
- There are commandments, principals and examples. It's good to keep these distinguished and clear.
No one has had significant feedback about the Anthem hymn book

Christian Price is taking over the background checks from Pete. Steve Price reviews them and then they are filed in the safe deposit box

Steve Bouchie, interested in having a Galilee-like program here at the chapel
Have Dave Dunlop come and do conference on dispensations?
Help with Biblical interpretation

Fall Fest
- Somebody emailed Grayson that they won't be involved because it's indoors

- The person (don't know who) has decided to be discreet, if rumors started or the person brought it back to the elders or was going to leave because of this, then the elders might address is directly
Thethe, girl from minnesota
- She is not coming, nothing further to do
Pete has been handling to background checks, transitioning it to Christian, will take a few months to transition fully
Evelyn and Ian changing their phone number

Visitation needed, especially for some who have been coming regularly and shown interest in staying and attending regularly.
What do the elders cover?
- Hearing testimonies of the individuals
- In the past, Steve and Carl would review the history of the chapel, coming out of having no elders, meeting the challenges that came out of that. That may no longer be necessary as an introductory thing with new people--it's not as relevant anymore, nor as recent.
- Discuss fellowship, it's concepts
- Hebrews 13:17 - responsibility on both sides (leaders and flock)
- Differentiate between membership and fellowship
- Back of our directory has some clarifying thoughts regarding this
- Discuss how we meet, if they're attending, they're seeing it
- Elder-led
- Variety of teachers
- Give clarity, opportunity for questions
- Discuss some doctrine, or "hot topics"
- "We are no a homeschool church"--sometimes clarifications like that are necessary
- We are not a group of hot-topics we congregate around
- We don't "push" certain things from the pulpit because our singular focus is on Christ
Who do the elders need to visit?
- Gabriela and Michael
- Miguel and Sheila
- Sheryl Knapp (Pete asked if she thinks she wants to be part of assembly, she's not sure), Bryan Knapp's sister
- Rutzmosers (Todd and Pete already visited)
- Amanda Cannon
- Mike Hitch
- David and Stephanie Diaz (David is Gabriela's brother)

Kiera's situation
- Needed a place to stay Saturday night
- She's in North Dakota, returning today
- She can't return home, dad sold house
- Holly said she can use their car
- Kiera wanted to sleep in Holly's car behind the chapel, can't do that for the sake of our neighbors, not safe for her
- She could have been working on this last weekend, instead of travelling up north!
- Still have job? Don't know…
- Figure out something temporarily, then have direct conversation with her
- Extended Stay is an option, to the end of the month, looks to be around $43/night
- Talk to deacons about paying for this stay
- Talk to Kiera about it
- Get Stephanie involved in discipling her--good idea to get help Kiera handle things straight!
- Todd will call Stephanie
Spanish conference
- David and Geraldine Cayama were there, David looked back, bronchitis turned to pneumonia
- Geraldine taking care of him at home, lost some work hours because of this, job where she does cleaning for hotels, can go back to it, hasn't lost this permanently
- Not doing well financially, possibly, Pete not 100% sure, Geraldine wasn't super clear
- May need financial help there
- Share with the deacons
From men's business meeting:
- What are the chapel's ministry priorities?
- Helps fund: how much do we want to commit?
Jim Hasemeyer
- Speaker at the spanish conference
Pathways conflicting with prayer meeting
- Reach out to Grayson, consider options
- Pathways set for this semester?
- Could be several ways to make prayer meeting more efficient--shorter time for requests
Conversation with Darrin
- Steve and Pete talked together
- Darrin approached elders, confused on what to do to go forward
- Wants to get to Japan quickly
- Seems slow going through Pioneer
- We would help him along through CMML, we commend through CMML
- Darrin, doesn't have car, haven't seen him work with others
- Expect it to take 2-3 years to get there, quickest way would be to get a job there, he has training in ESL
- Would encourage him that way, taking a job would accept him in the culture
- Steve cautioned Darrin not to be too American--mentioned that this gets in Brock's way sometimes

Kiara
- Make sure elders are supporting Stephanie with her mentoring of Kiara
- Staying at motel at the moment, through 9/2
- Today, looking at apartment (room in a house), in Independence? Woman is in the LDS though, has not proselytized her yet
- Probably not wise to let someone vulnerable like Kiara live with an LDS person. Pete's roommate when he was a new believer was an RLDS and it was very confusing for him. Stephanie is convinced this is a good move for her. She has someone going with her, not Stephanie.
- Has part-time job at animal clinic, looking for other jobs, only paying $12/hr, can work as available/needed
- Stephanie is pushing hard for he to look for jobs, $15-20/hr jobs, going to job fair today
Darren
- Working in direction of moving to Japan with job teaching English.
- May be as soon as Spring
Pathways
- Looking for a few changes to schedule, might help with concerns about the transition to prayer meeting
- Shifting dinner and games? Dinner may be one of the first things, clean-up can happen while other things are going on (game time)
Prayer meeting
- Less asking people for requests, maximizing time praying
- Long silences sometimes--some brothers not participating much?
- Silences can be good too
Sheryl Knapp
- Wants to be put on lady's email list
Sunday School
- Once teacher lists are complete, Pete will need to do background checks on them

Gabriela & Michael and David & Stephanie meeting with Todd, Carl and Pete
- Moved from Colorado
- Started in a baptist church
- Moved to a charismatic church, but the teaching appears to have turned them away
- Asked questions about losing salvation, indicating they didn't align with that teaching of losing ones salvation
- They went back to their baptist church and expressed getting "re-centered" on doctrine
- Gabi wasn't going to church for 6-7 years before coming to the chapel
- David told Gabi about us, had connections through Lakewood Bible Chapel in Colorado via David
- Gabi felt conviction to go to church, visited 4-5 other churches, liked "something different" when they came to us, very positive on how things are here (warm, welcome, comfortable--David and Stephanie said similar things)
- David & Stephanie: child is "Nairobi"
- David and Gabi baptized in baptist church in Colorado
- Michael not a believer, not baptized, Stephanie, not sure?
Miguel and Shiela ? Have not visited with them. Miguel has some kind of vision issue, won't come without his wife because of that (driving?).
Gabi and David interested in discipleship. We lack in this! Steve suggested a "orientation"-type class. Using a Gene Gibson book (Survey of Basic Christianity, Basic Christian Training) would be good.

Todd and Pete are going to talk to Brandon about the organizational aspects of the men's study. The first one this fall was bad--he started preparing breakfast at 8am which is when the study starts! He also led the study, but couldn't start until 9:12am.
Kiara, checking out Christian girl she met on social media to live with in Wichita. Seems to have checked out, but can't move in until October. Kiara was offered to live in Pittsburg, KS with her sister. Transferring from one Freddy's to another. Her insurance worked out after she thought it was cancelled.
Anthem song book, general conclusion seems to be to make the song book available for singing from, but not buying for each seat, using wisdom to choose which songs we sing. Seems like some teaching is needed on music and worship, it's purpose and the biblical reasoning and support for it.

Pete: Examples, application good, overall did a great job
Todd and Carl didn't hear it. Tisara thought it was good. Wasn't sure that some of the earlier scriptures he shared were connected to his topic, but he made it clear later in the message.
Nonchalant, cavalier sometimes
My main thoughts: need better structure for message. He said he had one point "the return of israel" and it could have and should have been expanded--his message really was well organized and could have been broken down by topics.

Holly, thanks for giving me some time to think and pray about sharing the gospel message at Steves funeral. I feel that I should not accept, however—I dont think that I am the right one. Please accept my apologies. I dont wish to disappoint you or Steve. But, I am trusting that this is from the Lord and that the outcome will be more honoring to Him and Steves remembrance this way.
